What We Do

The Homewood City Schools Foundation raises funds through generous donors and community events to support all five schools in the Homewood system.

We fund classroom enhancements, programs, technology, and teacher professional development—impacting every student, every day.

Teacher Impact Awards

Each year at the Foundation’s spring Homewood Grown event, the Foundation recognizes one teacher from each of the five Homewood schools who has made a significant mark on the lives of students with Teacher Impact Awards. Nominations come from parents, fellow teachers, administrators and even students who have been impacted by a teacher.

National Board Certification Financial Assistance

We currently have 60 National Board-certified teachers and another 22 in process. Homewood City Schools continues to be named a National Board Accomplished District each school year based on its percentage of National Board Certified Teachers. HCS is one of only four school districts in Alabama to earn this recognition.
The Foundation provides financial support for Homewood teachers who pursue National Board Certification. Homewood is one of 79 districts in the country (and one of four in Alabama) recognized as a National Board Accomplished District.

Scholarships for seniors

We are proud to partner with private donors to offer scholarships for deserving Homewood High School graduating seniors. Applications are available through Homewood High School.

The Aniah Blanchard Memorial Scholarship

This award was established in memory of Aniah Blanchard, a graduate of Homewood High School.

Before Superintendent Dr. Bill Clevleand retired from Homewood City Schools, he wanted to do something to remind everyone what our schools are about—our students. “Once you are a Patriot, you are always a Patriot,” he said.

The Caitlin Creed Character Award

This award was created in memory of Caitlin Creed, a Homewood High School cheerleader, by the cheerleading sponsors, Holly Drake and Maggie Stoffregen. The award recognizes a high school senior who exemplifies good character and serves as a leader among the school’s cheerleading squad.

After the award was established, Brad and Kathy Creed, Caitlin’s parents, created a scholarship for the award recipient. The scholarship amount is $1,000 and is awarded to the Caitlin Creed Character Award recipient in the spring.

The Jody Atchison Scholarship

This award was established in memory of Joanne (Jody) Atchison. Jody taught at Homewood Middle School for 29 years and received numerous honors, including Public School Health Education Teacher of the Year and ASAHPERD Physical Education Teacher of the Year. This scholarship is awarded each spring to a female student of exemplary character that has an interest in a health related field or physical education.

The Dr. Jodi Newton Scholarship

The Dr. Jodi Newton Scholarship was established in 2008 by the Homewood City Schools Foundation and the Homewood Board of Education to honor former Superintendent Dr. Jodi Newton.

This $1,000 scholarship, which is funded by the Foundation and its generous donors, is awarded annually to a Homewood High School senior who best exemplifies the qualities of the late Dr. Newton. The scholarship winner is selected based on leadership skills, service to school and community, and strong character.
